Methods and systems for providing navigational feedback during a surgicalprocedure. A user interface is displayedon a display for viewing position and orientation of a surgical tool in asurgical field during the surgical procedure. The position andorientation of the surgical tool is tracked by a medical navigation systemcoupled to the processor. The user interface includes a virtualrepresentation of the surgical tool superimposed on an image of the surgicalfield. A selected intraoperative position and orientationof the surgical tool is used to intraoperatively create and store a waypointin memory. Feedback is provided to indicate thestored position and orientation of the waypoint.
