A fiber matrix is provided formaintaining space in soft tissue, for example foruse in procedures for assisting drainage of aque-oushumor from an eye to treat glaucoma. Thefiber matrix comprises a plurality of crossingfibers forming a mesh with a plurality of voidspaces. The fibers and void spaces are sized andarranged so as to permit passage of fluidthrough the fiber matrix and to inhibit formationof scar tissue through the fiber matrix. Thefibers may comprise a polymeric material, andthe fiber matrix may be manufactured byelec-trospinning. The fibers may comprise abiostable and/or a biodegradable material. Inone method of using a fiber matrix, the fiberma-trix is positioned under a scleral flap, with atleast part of the fiber matrix under the scleralflap.
