The present specification discloses methods and systems for synthesizing electrocardiographic (ECG) signals. In one method, a first group of electrodes are attached to predetermined locations on the human body. A posture sensor is attached to the human body and generates data indicative of the human bodys posture. The system receives signals from the first group of electrodes connected to the predetermined locations on a human body and acquires a first set of ECG signals. The system then derives at least one further ECG signal by applying transformation(s) on the first set of ECG signals, or a subset thereof, to form a desired set of signals, where the applied transformations are selected based on the human bodys posture.
