A method and associated apparatus (12) detects the presence and quality of chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by analyzing existing signals in automated external defibrillator (AED) devices without using a stand-alone CPR meter. The method includes analyzing both a thoracic impedance signal and a common-mode current signal, each of which can be measured with standard AED pads (18). The method applies criteria to the measured signals, the criteria being used to select which of the measured signals to use for providing CPR chest compression detections.L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil associé (12) qui détecte la présence et la qualité de compressions thoraciques pendant une réanimation cardiopulmonaire (CPR) par analyse de signaux existants dans des dispositifs de défibrillateur externe automatisé (DEA) sans utiliser de dispositif de mesure CPR autonome. Le procédé consiste à analyser à la fois un signal d'impédance thoracique et un signal de courant de mode commun, chacun pouvant être mesuré avec des tampons DEA standard (18). Le procédé applique des critères aux signaux mesurés, les critères étant utilisés pour sélectionner l'un des signaux mesurés à utiliser pour fournir des détections de compression thoracique CPR.
