Disclosed is a device and method for controlling operations of a tracking device installed in a surgical kit. The method comprises, receiving one or more signals from an accelerometer. The accelerometer may be configured to transmit the one or more signals upon detecting change in a state of the surgical kit. Further, the state may be one of a stationary state and an in-motion state. The method further comprises activating the tracking device based on the one or more signals and obtaining a location co-ordinate of the surgical kit from the tracking system. The method furthermore comprises transmitting the state of the surgical kit and the location co-ordinate of the surgical kit via a communication channel based on a signal strength of the communication channel and deactivating the tracking device, thereby controlling operations of a tracking device installed in a surgical kit.
