PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination structure for surgical microscopes which provides necessary light volume over an entire focal position range even when a variable range of focal length of an objective optical system is expanded.SOLUTION: When a movable lens 8 moves causing change in focal length, a sloped surface 27 of a cam member 26 that integrally moves with the movable lens 8 is in contact with a top end 25 of a lever 24, causing an angle of a mirror 21 to change such that illumination light R reflected by the mirror 21 is directed to a focal position.
