PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for producing nitrogen oxide. In one embodiment, the NO generation system 10 comprises a control device 30 and a disposable cartridge capable of simultaneously providing nitric oxide for two different treatments. Disposable cartridges have multiple purposes: to provide inflow gas for exposure to the NO production process, to purify the exhaust gas with respect to unwanted substances, to characterize the patient intake flow, and to be collected. Includes removing water from the sample gas. Plasma generation can be done in the cartridge or in the controller. The system has the ability to calibrate NO and NO 2 gas analysis sensors without the use of calibration gas.
