#$%^&*AU2012203035B220141023.pdf#####SURGICAL STAPLER WITH TIMER AND FEEDBACK DISPLAY ABSTRACT There is disclosed a surgical stapler (10) comprising a handle assembly including a stationary handle (14) and a trigger (26) configured to manipulate a cam member (144) through an actuating stroke, an elongated body (16) extending distally from the handle assembly and defining a longitudinal axis, a staple cartridge (21) supported adjacent the distal end of the elongated body and containing a plurality of staples, an anvil (22) pivotally supported adjacent the distal end of the elongated body and mounted in adjacent relation to the staple cartridge, the anvil having a fastener forming surface thereon, the staple cartridge and anvil being movable between an open position in spaced relation to one another and a closed position in close cooperative alignment with one another. A drive assembly (66) includes a body having a working end with the cam member supported on the working end, the cam member being positioned to translate relative to the anvil and staple cartridge to maintain the anvil and staple cartridge in the closed position during firing of the stapler, the trigger being operably connected to the drive assembly such that manipulation of the trigger effects translation of the cam member relative to the anvil and the staple cartridge. A controller (28) configured to control a movement of an actuation sled (164) translatable through the staple cartridge (21), the controller delaying movement of the actuation sled to urge the plurality of staples from the staple cartridge for a predetermined time period when the anvil and staple cartridge are in the closed position and in cooperative alignment with one another.
