The present invention relates to a composition comprising a Rosa rugosa extract as an active ingredient for preventing or alleviating an alcoholic liver disease. The composition of the present invention has relatively high scavenging activity in scavenging a DPPH radical and an ABTS&dagger； radical, has an aspartic acid, asparagine, serin, glycine, arginine or allicin which promotes the generation of alcoholysis enzymes and inhibits the activity of a CYP2E1 enzyme which causes an alcoholic liver damage to obstruct a reduction in the viability of HepG2 cells caused by an alcohol. In addition, the composition has no cytotoxicity in liver cells causing a alcoholic liver damage, thereby being safely used in a pharmaceutical and a food composition.본 발명은 해당화 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 알코올성 간질환 예방 또는 개선용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 상기 조성물은 DPPH 라디칼 및 ABTS† 라디칼 소거능면에서 상대적으로 높은 소거활성을 나타내고, 알콜성 분해효소 생성을 촉진시키는 아스파르트산, 아스파라긴, 세린, 글리신, 아르기닌 또는 알리신을 함유하며, 알코올성 간 손상을 일으키는 CYP2E1 효소의 활성을 억제하여 알코올에 의한 HepG2 세포 생존율 감소를 저해하는 효과를 나타낸다. 그리고, 알코올성 간 손상을 일으키는 간세포에 대한 세포독성이 없어 약제학적 및 식품 조성물에 안전하게 적용될 수 있다.
