This invention relates to compositions for reducing the absorption orbioavailability of lipids in the gastrointestinal tract, and to methods forthepreparation and use of these compositions. The compositions comprise adietary fibre preparation derived from a plant belonging to the genusOpuntia, at least one cyclodextrin selected from alpha-cyclodextrin,beta-cyclodextrin, gamma-cyclodextrin and combinations of two or more thereof,and the weight ratio of dietary fibre and cyclodextrin being between 95:5 and60:40. The compositions of the invention are suitable for use in theprevention and treatment of obesity or hyperlipidaemia.
