The apparatus includes a light projecting unit (17) configured to project visible light to a subjects eye, a detection unit (25) configured to measure a pupil diameter, which is caused by the light projecting unit, and a control unit (32) configured to determine the amount of change in diameter and to control a photographing operation based on the amount of change determined by the control unit.
