The present invention provides a formulation for preventing toxic mycoplasma gallicepticum infection in algae of the order Galliformes. The formulation comprises a viable Mycoplasma galliscepticum strain K5831 or a derivative thereof in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. A vaccine is also proposed to prevent mycoplasma gallicepticum infection in the algae of Galiporhyns.
