A retractable electrified gate assembly (1) for a fence-line having a gateway therethrough including a gate (3) is disclosed. The retractable electrified gate assembly comprises a length of resilient material (LRM) connected at one end to a first side of the fence-line (8) and connected at the other end to a length of conducting material (LCM). The LCM is configured to at least span the width from the first side (5) of the gateway (2) to a second side (10) of said gateway (2) to obstruct the gateway and the LCM includes a fence closure connector on at least one end thereof configured to fasten the LCM to the second side of the gateway. The first side of the gateway includes a guide support (11) which controls the retraction of the LCM and LRM by guiding the LCM and LRM during retraction thereof from the second side of the gateway to the first side of the gateway and holds the connector off the ground when the LCM and LRM are in a retracted position on the first side of the gateway by preventing a portion of the LRM, LCM and/or fence closure connector passing therethrough, thereby maintaining the LRM and LCM under sufficient tension to support the weight of the fence closure connector. The LRM is substantially parallel with the length of fence-line to which it is attached and the connection between the LRM and the LCM is configured to apply at least a portion of any longitudinal tension with the LRM to the LCM.
