PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire capable of demonstrating excellent slidability inside a lumen, and further, preventing the decline of grip force (holding force) when the guide wire is held and operated.SOLUTION: The guide wire 1A includes a flexible long-length wire body 10. The wire body includes: a swelling part 34 formed to be projected on the outer surface of the wire body to be swollen and deformed by being in contact with liquid and a base part 35 adjacent to the swelling part and lower in height than the peak part 341 after the swelling part is swollen and deformed. In the swelling part, the height of the peak part before being swollen and deformed does not exceed the height of the base part, and a hydrophilic surface 51 is provided on the outermost surface.
