FIELD: biotechnology.SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to genetic engineering, in particular to a transgenic rodent, mouse or rat used to express human DPP4 protein. Genome of said rodent comprises replacement of the genomic fragment of the rodent Dpp4 gene in the endogenous locus of the Dpp4 rodent onto the genomic fragment of the human DPP4 gene to produce a modified DPP4 gene. This modified DPP4 gene encodes the human DPP4 protein, and its expression is under the control of the rodent regulatory elements in the endogenous locus of the rodent Dpp4. In cases of coronavirus infection of the Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV), pneumonia is observed in the rodent.
