In order to reduce the negative effects of metabolic syndrome on the mammalian organism, it is envisaged in the invention to use phytoecdysones, so as to decrease the fat mass in an individual, in particular an overweight individual. The phytoecdysones are advantageously incorporated into a food composition. According to the invention, the phytoecdysones can be derived from food plants, such as quinoa.
