The present invention generally relates to transdermal delivery of sildenafil and other phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors. Although the transdermal delivery of sildenafil in creams and other topical formulations has been described previously, propylene glycol has not previously been recognized as a transdermal enhancer. However, in some embodiments of the invention, certain concentrations of propylene glycol can exert surprising effects in the transdermal delivery of sildenafil and other phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors, eg, in some cases transdermally.
