PURPOSE: A removing agent of hydrogen peroxide (H_2O_2) containing magnesium-protoporphyrin IX (MPP) as an active ingredient and to be used as a physiologically active substance of various organisms by reducing hydrogen peroxide toxicity in bacteria or mammalian cells through the activation of peroxidase. CONSTITUTION: A removing agent of intracellular and extracellular hydrogen peroxide contains MPP as an active ingredient. MPP removes hydrogen peroxide by the activity of peroxidase. The cells are bacteria or mammalian cells. A method for reducing intracellular or extracellular toxicity comprises the step of adding MPP in a concentration of 1-20 uM.본 발명은 마그네슘 프로토포르피린 IX를 함유한 과산화수소(hydrogen peroxide, H2O2)제거제에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 광합성 생명체의 엽록소(chlorophyll) 또는 세균엽록소(bacteriochlorophyll) 합성 대사과정의 전구물질인 마그네슘 프로토포르피린 IX(Mg-protoporphyrin IX)가 나타내는 세포 내외에서의 페록시다아제(peroxidase) 활성을 통해 세균 또는 포유류 세포에서 나타나는 과산화수소에 의한 독성을 저감시킴으로써 다양한 생명체의 생리활성 물질로 활용될 수 있으며 아울러 자외선(ultraviolet light, UV)에 의한 광독성(photo-toxicity)을 나타내지 않으며 자외선 차단효과를 나타냄으로써 시약, 의약품 및 화장품 소재 등으로 활용될 수 있는 마그네슘 프로토포르피린 IX를 함유한 과산화수소 제거제 및 이를 이용한 과산화수소 독성의 저감 방법에 관한 것이다.
