The invention relates to a polysaccharide comprising carboxyl functional groups, at least one of which is substituted by a hydrophobic alcohol derivative. The invention also relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing one of the polysaccharides of the invention and at least one active principal. The invention further relates to a pharmaceutical composition characterised in that the active agent is selected from the group including proteins, glycoproteins, peptides and non-peptide therapeutic molecules. The invention also relates to the use of functionalised polysaccharides of the invention for preparing pharmaceutical compositions such as those described above.
