The invention relates to a sterile emulsion comprising 80-99.9 wt.% of a continuous aqueous phase and 0.01-20 wt.% of a dispersed lipid phase, wherein the emulsion contains 0.1-10% of hyaluronate by weight of said aqueous phase and 0.01-50% of a lipophilic glucocorticoid by weight of said lipid phase.This emulsion can suitably be administered intra-articularly to patients suffering from an inflammatory joint disorder to maintain mobility of the joint and to provide effective relief for intra-articular pain and inflammation. The emulsion offers the advantage that following intra-articular administration it is effective for a prolonged period of time.
