PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article folding device and method which facilitate achieving an initial folding state.SOLUTION: An article folding device comprises: a conveying device 4 that conveys an article N in a conveying direction X while holding a hold part H of the article N at a conveying surface 40； a first folding device 21 that folds a first end part N1, in the article N being conveyed, in a non-hold state which is not held by the conveying device 4, so as to stand relative to the hold part H； an endless first folding-back belt 11 that comes in contact with the stood first end part N1 and folds back the first end part N1 so that the first end part N1 overlaps with the hold part H； and changing means that changes relative velocity between velocity V of the conveying surface 40 of the conveying device 4 and circumferential velocity V1 of the first folding-back belt 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
