Disclosed herein are composite materials which may be used as biomedical materials or constructs. The disclosed biomedical materials or constructs may be multiphasic and typically provide a surface for cell growth. The disclosed biomedical materials and constructs typically comprise conjugable and/or adhesive chemical moieties, such as hydroxylated aromatic moieties, which facilitate integration of the components of the biomedical materials and constructs.
