Tissue is treated using a radiofrequency power supply connected to anapplicator having a chamber filled with anelectrically non-conductive gas surrounded by a thin dielectric wall. Aradiofrequency voltage is applied at a level sufficient toionize the gas into a plasma and to capacitively couple the ionized plasmawith the tissue to deliver radiofrequency current toablate or otherwise treat the tissue.
