A surgical saw blade (52, 5a, 52b, 702) is described. The surgical saw blade comprises an elongated blade bar (494, 494a, 494b) having opposed plates (502, 502a, 504, 504a). The blade bar has opposed proximal and distal sections. The proximal section has a feature (516, 538) for releasably holding the blade bar to a powered surgical saw (50). The distal section is formed with a void space and a primary opening into the void space, wherein the blade bar plates are spaced apart from each other so as to form the void space in the blade bar distal section. The surgical saw blade further comprises a blade head (76, 76a), the blade head having a base (496, 496a) disposed in the blade bar distal section opening that is pivotally mounted in the blade bar distal section, and a crown (498) integral with the base that extends through and outside of the blade bar distal section primary opening, the crown being formed with teeth (499, 499a), wherein the base and the crown both have a thickness and the thickness of the crown is greater than that of the base to allow the insertion of the blade bar into a kerf cut by the blade head. In addition, the surgical saw blade comprises two drive rods (74, 74a). Each of said drive rods has a distal end movably attached to the blade head base and a proximal end adjacent blade bar proximal section, the proximal end configured to engage a drive member integral with the surgical saw. Each of the opposed blades proximal to its distal end has a pair of oval-shaped openings (520, 520a, 539, 539a) of one size and positioned to be aligned with each other. Each of said two drive rods has a pair of overlapping fingers (558, 558a) extending forward therefrom and over the blade head base. Each pair of said fingers are configured to pivotally connect the respective drive rods to the blade head base and each pair of said fingers are disposed in the corresponding pair of the aligned oval-shaped openings.
