To protect cultivated areas from snail damage, an enclosure strip (1) is proposed which is provided with a channel (5) running all the way round and a protective roof (6) extending over the channel. The channel (5) is filled with a snail-repelling substance, such as common salt, with the result that the snails are prevented from crawling over the enclosure strip (1). For easier handling during transportation, the enclosure strip (1) is divided into sections (15, 16, 16') which can easily be assembled by means of connecting pieces (21) and angle pieces (26) (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
