The invention refers to a novel pharmaceutical application of doxazosin mesylate for treating alcoholic and non-alcoholic cirrhosis. The oral dose used in the model is comparable to the dose recommended for humans. The results of the studied model show that the treatment with doxazosin mesylate is effective in replacing scar collagen type I into collagen type III. The biochemical data of hepatic function reflect a recovery of the normal metabolism of the cirrhotic liver. The hepatic histology after the treatment shows a regeneration of its normal architecture. 1.Esta invención se refiere a una nueva aplicación farmacéutica del mesilato de doxazosina para el tratamiento de la cirrosis hepática alcohólica y no alcohólica. La dosis vía oral utilizada en nuestro modelo es equiparable con la dosis recomendada en humanos. Los resultados de nuestro modelo de estudio demuestran que el tratamiento con mesilato de doxazosina es efectivo en el recambio de colágeno tipo I cicatrizal a colágeno tipo III. Los datos bioquímicos de función hepática reflejan una recuperación del metabolismo normal del hígado cirrótico.
