PURPOSE: A composition containing Spenceria ramalana extract or fraction thereof for preventing and treating diabetes complication is provided to suppress aldose reductase activity. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating diabetes complication contains Spenceria ramalana extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared from whole plant of Spenceria ramalana using water, C1-C2 low alcohol, or mixture solvent thereof. The pharmaceutical composition also contains a fraction. A method for preparing the fraction comprises: a step of suspending the extract in water； a step of fractioning with normal-hexane, ethyl acetate, normal-butanol, and water.본 발명은 마제황(Spenceriaramalana) 추출물 또는 이의 분획물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 당뇨합병증 예방 및 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 더욱 구체적으로는, 마제황 추출물 또는 이의 분획물은 당뇨합병증의 지표인 최종당화산물의 생성 및 알도즈 환원효소의 활성을 억제하고, 당뇨병성 망막증에 대한 유의적인 예방 및 치료효과를 나타내므로, 당뇨병성 망막증을 포함하는 다양한 당뇨합병증 예방 및 치료용 조성물의 유효성분으로서 유용하게 이용될 수 있다.
