the present invention relates to a process for improving the large-scale production of the ocimum gratissimum plant and its essential oil, as well as increasing the production of chemical components of the essential oil of that plant. the process described in the present invention is characterized by the cultivation of the plant under management of water irrigation and nitrogen fertilization which leads to an increase in the production of the plant with an increase in the size of the leaves and in the dry mass of the leaves. the cultivation process of ocimum gratissimum, of the present invention, also increases the yield of the essential oil of ocimum gratissimum and its biologically active chemical components with potential for application by the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries.a presente invenção refere-se a um processo para melhorar a produção em larga escala da planta de ocimum gratissimum e do seu óleo essencial, bem como o aumento da produção de componentes químicos do óleo essencial dessa planta. o processo descrito na presente invenção se caracteriza pelo cultivo da planta sob manejo da irrigação hídrica e da adubação nitrogenada o que leva ao aumento da produção da planta com aumento do tamanho das folhas e da massa seca das folhas. o processo de cultivo de ocimum gratissimum, da presente invenção, também aumenta o rendimento do óleo essencial de ocimum gratissimum e de seus componentes químicos biologicamente ativos com potencialidade de aplicação pelas indústrias farmacêutica, cosmética e alimentícia.
