PURPOSE: A composition containing a Prunella vulgaris extract is provided to reduce lipid generation in a cell and to enhance heme oxygenase-1 expression. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for suppressing lipid generation contains a Prunella vulgaris extract. The extract is prepared using water, alcohol, and a mixture thereof. The alcohol is C1-C4 alcohol, ethanol or methanol. The extract suppresses lipid generation through regulation of heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) gene.
