PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oily base agent excellent in safety, stability, gloss, water-holding property and adhesion to the skin, and a cosmetic and a skin care preparation for external use comprising the oily base agent.
SOLUTION: The oily base agent comprises an ester obtained by allowing a 1-34C monohydric alcohol to react with an ester, obtained by allowing a dimer acid to react with a mixed alcohol of a dimer diol and a 3-10C trihydric or higher hydric alcohol, in an amount of 0.8-1.5 mole equivalent relative to 1 mole equivalent of a carboxy group remaining in the ester. The oily base agent exhibits, as an ingredient of a cosmetic and a skin care preparation for external use, excellent safety, stability, gloss, water-holding property and adhesion to the skin, and can be a liquid oily base agent as well as a pasty oily base agent.
