The present invention relates to a streptococcal octapeptide AXYLXXLN, and preferably to the octapeptide AXYLZZLN, designated as peptide associated with rheumatic fever (PARF) that, through its interaction with human collagen, plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of rheumatic fever. PARF therefore represents a marker for rheumatic fever associated strains and provides a target for therapies, and in particular preventive therapies.La présente invention concerne un octapeptide streptococcique AXYLXXLN, et de préférence loctapeptide AXYLZZLN. Ce peptide associé au rhumatisme articulaire aigu (PARF) joue un rôle essentiel dans la pathogenèse du rhumatisme articulaire aigu par le biais de son interaction avec le collagène humain. Selon cette invention, le PARF constitue un marqueur pour les souches associées au rhumatisme articulaire et représente une cible thérapeutique, en particulier dans le cadre des traitements préventifs.
