One stump cutter cutting wheel disclosedherein includes a wheel structure having left and rightsides and being rotatable about a central axis extendingbetween the left and right sides. The left and right sidesdefine receptacles having depths measured in an orientationextending along the axis. Cutter assemblies aremounted to the wheel structure and include cuttersmounted to cutter holders. The cutter holders includebase portions that fit within the receptacles, and the baseportions each define at least one fastener opening. Thebase portions further define base thicknesses measuredin the orientation extending along the axis. The receptacledepths are at least 0.25 times as large as the basethicknesses such that no more than 75 percent of thebase thicknesses extend laterally outside the receptacles.Fasteners secure the cutter holders to the wheel structureand extend through the fastener openings defined by thebase portions.
