Providing a method for combining anatomical data and physiological data on a single image. The method includes obtaining an image of the sample, for example a raw near infrared (NIR) image or a visible light image. The image of the sample comprises the anatomical structure of the sample. A physiological map of blood flow and perfusion of the sample is obtained. The anatomical structure of the image and the physiological map of the sample are combined into a single image of the sample. The single image of the sample displays the anatomical structure and physiological function of the sample in real time in the single image.
