The present invention in general relates to the field of biological crop protection by use of phytoseiid predatory mites. More particularly the present invention relates to a system for releasing a phytoseiid predatory mite in a crop and novel uses of host mites in such phytoseiid predatory mite releasing system. Cette invention concerne plus spécifiquement un système d'épandage d'acariens prédateurs phytoséides dans un champ et de nouvelles utilisations d'acariens hôtes dans ce système d'épandage. Aux termes de cette invention, ce système d'épandage d'acariens prédateurs phytoséides et ses utilisations se caractérisent par la sélection d'une espèce d'acariens hôtes présentant un taux de croissance intrinsèque (rm) inférieur à 0,28.
