herbicide resistance genes. The present invention provides novel plants that are not only resistant to 2,4-d and other phenoxy auxin herbicides, but also to aryloxyphenoxypropionate herbicides. Thus, there is no known expectation or suggestion that a plant with these two advantageous properties can be produced by introducing a single gene. The present invention also includes plants that produce one or more enzymes of the present invention alone or "stacked" together with another herbicide resistance gene, preferably a glyphosate resistance gene, to provide broader and more weed control. robustness, increased treatment flexibility, and improved herbicide resistance control options. more specifically, preferred enzymes and genes for use in accordance with the present invention are referred to herein as aad (aryloxyalkanoate dioxigenase) genes and proteins. no α-ketoglutarate-dependent dioxigenase enzyme has previously been reported to have the ability to degrade herbicides of different chemical classes and modes of action. This breakthrough breakthrough underpins significant herbicide tolerant crop trait opportunities as well as the development of selectable marker technology. The present invention also includes related weed control methods. The present invention allows new herbicide combinations to be used in novel ways.
