PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical switching apparatus allowing the user to perform switch operations with the thumb of the hand gripping the switch.SOLUTION: In the switching apparatus, a spring contact piece 91a of a relay fitting 91 faces a spring contact piece 30a of a battery negative terminal fitting 30. A switch operating part 80 which is movable in the direction perpendicular to the spring contact piece 91a and has a lever part L, and a battery positive terminal fitting 40 having a springy rising and dropping part 47 on which a conical bent part m to be engaged with a latching part A is located on its end part side are provided. The latching part A has a first recessed part A1 to be latched with the conical bent part m at a right rocking position of the switch operating part 80, a second recessed part A2 to be latched with the conical bent part m at a left rocking position thereof, and a curved projecting part Z located between them.
