A spreading device (3) for trawl fishing, seismic survey operations and other water activities where it is desirable to keep distance between two sides of a towed device, said spreading device having at least one section (6, 7), which at least one section comprises at least one foil (10, 20, 30), where the foil has a front surface (20', 30') and a rear surface (10'), said surfaces each being defined by two edges and two side limitations (8, 14, 15), in use being front and rear edges an upper and lower side limitations and a material thickness between said front and rear surfaces, and where at a predetermined distance from the front edge, on the front surface is provided a bulb (50, 50') at least spanning a majority of the distance between the upper and lower side limitations (8, 14, 15).
