A diaper fastener comprises a substantially planar member 1 which is at least in part elastically extensible. There are three spaced hook units 5 associated with the member 1 and the elastically extensible part is interposed between at least two of the hook units 5. Each hook unit 5 has teeth (6, figure 7) which can engage with the fabric of the diaper and hold the diaper in its functional position. At least one of the hook units 5 is composed of two parts, a clamping part 8 and a hook part (7, figure 7), which are permanently clipped together from opposite sides of the planar member 1. There is a stem (16, figure 7) that runs through corresponding slot (17, figure 2) in the planar member 1 to locate hook unit 5. The advantage is that the fastener alleviates some of the difficulties associated with the use of safety pins for fastening a fabric diaper on an infant.
