Disclosed herein is a pharmaceutically acceptable composition of a parasiticidally effective, subtoxic amount of imidacloprid when used for oral delivery to non-human mammals to control blood-sucking or consuming parasites thereon, wherein the imidacloprid is the only parasiticidal agent present in the pharmaceutical composition, and wherein the composition provides imidacloprid in a single dose level of 0.01 mg/kg to 30 mg/kg. Also disclosed is the use of a parasiticidally effective, subtoxic amount of imidacloprid for the manufacture of a medicament for the control of blood-sucking or consuming parasites on a mammal, wherein the imidacloprid is the only parasiticidal agent present in the medicament and wherein the medicament provides imidacloprid in a single dose level of 0.01 mg/kg to 30 mg/kg.
