The invention relates to a method for modifying a hot water bottle. The method according to the invention comprises at least the following steps: providing the hot water bottle, wherein the hot water bottle consists at least in part of a polymer-containing material applying the hot water bottle with at least one beam generated by a radiation source, in particular an electron beam or a gamma ray, in order to modify at least one property of the hot water bottle, at least in sections, wherein the modified property of the hot water bottle is a change in the material property of the polymer material, said change in the material property being characterised by an increase in the degree of cross-linking of the molecule chains of the polymer material and/or said change in the material property being characterised by the separation of atoms, in particular hydrogen atoms and/or carbon atoms, from the molecules of the polymer material.
