The present invention, in one of the embodiments thereof illustrated, discloses a trap for attracting bloodsucking insects and trapping them alive, which comprises a compartment that accommodates a bait animal in order to attract said insects, and a receptacle or artificial refuge as temporary housing in which to keep the insects, which contains a folding component with holes (the geometries of which may vary, but which in certain preferred embodiments may be circular, square, rectangular or rhomboidal). The aforesaid may be supplemented with adhesive material, such as adhesive tape placed around the compartment. This trap may be placed at various locations within or close to the natural habitats of the insects. The effectiveness of the present invention in collecting the triatomine insects alive allows the subsequent colonization thereof in the laboratory, for the purposes of studying insect biology, genetics, systemics and behaviour.
