The present invention relates to a light absorbing agent comprising melanoidin and/or metal chelating complex of melanoidin, a manufacturing method thereof, and a composition comprising the same for a contrast agent, a photothermal treatment, and fat melting. More particularly, the light absorbing agent is more biocompatible in comparison to conventional substances such as nanoparticles which absorb light and generate heat, and has excellent biodegradability and an ability to be removed in bodies. Thus, the light absorbing agent is useful in the fields of stable and effective contrast agents for photoacoustic imaging, and photodynamic treatments.
