Provided herein are absorbent polymers formed from beta-propiolactone, and methods of making such polymers. These absorbent polymers may be crosslinked. Beta-propiolactone can be derived from ethylene oxide and carbon monoxide. The resorbable polymer may be biobased and / or biodegradable.
