The present invention relates to a method of farming bulbs (4) for the production of saffron flowers (F) combining the use of a cropland (1) for cultivating and growing saffron bulbs (4) and the use of a farming area (2), the latter being established in an open field or preferably in an industrial unit or a greenhouse. The farming area (2) comprises storage and conveyance means for storing and conveying containers (3) for the bulbs (4) that will gradually produce saffron flowers (F). This farming area (2) also has a cutting unit (2.4) through which the containers (3) containing bulbs (4) with flowers (F) to be cut move, subsequently separating the stigmas from the flowers (F) for the automated production of saffron stigmas. The present invention also relates to an automated saffron flower cutting unit (2.4) which allows the parallel cutting of flowers (F) from bulbs (4) distributed in rows and columns in a container (3), increasing the automated production of saffron stigmas.
