An expandable spinal implant device 10 for supporting vertebral bodies can include first and second body members 14, 18 and first and second expansion mechanisms 26, 30. The body members 14, 18 can each have a first end 34, 42 positionable toward one of the vertebral bodies and can each define a hollow interior 54. The expansion mechanisms 26, 30 can be spaced apart from each other and can include a first drive shaft 64, 72 and a second drive shaft 68, 76, respectively. The first and second drive shafts can each have a gear member 80, 84 fixedly coupled thereto. Each drive shaft 64, 72, 68, 76 can be threadably engaged at a first side to the first body member 14 and at a second side to the second body member 18. The expansion mechanisms 26, 30 can be operable to effect axial displacement of the first body member 14 relative to the second body member 18 by rotationally driving the gear members 80, 84 of the first and second drive shafts 64, 72, 68, 76.
