The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating radiation syndrome comprising a Makgeolli (Korean rice wine) extract as an active ingredient, and more specifically, to a composition for preventing or treating radiation syndrome comprising a Makgeolli extract as an active ingredient and to a food composition for alleviating radiation syndrome. A method of the present invention provides a composition for preventing or treating, and a food composition for alleviating, radiation syndrome comprising a Makgeolli extract as an active ingredient, and may be beneficially used to provide a composition for suppressing chromosome alterations induced by radiation and a composition for maintaining chromosome stability. Also, by exploiting the effect of the Makgeolli of suppressing chromosome alterations, the present invention may be used beneficially to prevent, alleviate and treat diseases caused by radiation.본 발명은 막걸리 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 방사선 증후군의 예방 또는 치료용 조성에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 막걸리 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 방사선 증후군(radiation syndrome)의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물 및 개선용 식품용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 방법은 막걸리 추출물을 유효성분으로 하는 방사선 증후군의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물 및 식품용 조성물을 제공하고, 방사선으로 유발되는 염색체 변이 억제용 조성물 및 염색체 안정성 유지용 조성물을 제공하는 데에 유용하게 이용될 수 있다. 그리고 막걸리 추출물의 유전자 변이를 억제하는 효과를 이용하여 방사선에 의해 유발되는 질병을 예방, 개선 및 치료하는 데에 유용하게 이용될 수 있다.
