The application discloses a method for controlling operation of an agricultural machine (10), comprising providing a portable device (1), the portable device (1) comprising an input device (2), a processing unit (3), a storage unit (4), an output device (5), and a transceiver device (6) configured for wireless data transmission, receiving a voice control command over a microphone device of the input device (2) of the portable device (1), determining command text data from the voice control command by processing the voice control command by a speech recognition application running on the processing unit (3) of the portable device (1), providing machine control signals assigned to a machine control function in a control device of an agricultural machine (10) located remotely from the portable device (1), and controlling the operation of the agricultural machine (10) according to the machine control signals.
