An apparatus for suturing wounds, comprising: a first tissue clamp, the first suture fixedly connected to the first clamp tissue at the proximal end and extending in length to a free distal end, the second tissue clamp, a second suture fixedly connected to a second tissue clamp in proximal end and extending in length to a free distal end, wherein the first suture is adapted to form a sliding assembly at its proximal end, disposed substantially near a first tissue clamp, wherein the second suture is adapted to form a sliding assembly at its proximal end, disposed substantially adjacent the second tissue retainer and wherein the length of the first suture extends through a slipknot of the second thread segment and the second suture extends through a slipknot of the first suture niti.2. The apparatus of Claim. 1, wherein the first and second tissue retainers are arranged substantially axially and have a distal end that penetrates tela.3 tissue.
