Disclosed is a method for controlling pressurized airflow delivered to a mask with a processor controlled PAP device comprising the steps of: a) identifying a plurality of desired delivery pressures; b) for each of the plurality of desired delivery pressures determining a desired motor speed for a blower, each desired motor speed corresponding to a desired motor current; c) measuring the actual motor speed of the blower motor of the processor-controlled PAP device; d) filtering out perturbations from the measure of motor speed; and e) controlling the delivered airflow to the mask by applying a polynomial flow estimation algorithm with inputs of the filtered measure of motor speed and the desired motor current.
