The present invention discloses the use of chitosan-g-poly(acrylamide)/copper nanocomposite for controlled drug delivery. The nanocomposite shows 70-80% release of ofloxacin over 24 hour period. Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 3, Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 shows the FTIR spectra, XRD spectra, SEM and TEM images and drug release behavior of chitosan-g-poly(acrylamide)/Cu nanocomposite. The nanocomposite provides a convenient, easy to monitor, inexpensive and time saving method for controlled drug delivery of ofloxacin. The process of synthesis of the nanocomposite involves addition of copper nanoparticles in chitosan-grafted-acrylamide in microwave under defined conditions. The size of the nanoparticles is in the range of 100 nm as revealed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
